Sixers Miss Out on Warrick

by 76ers

Unrestricted free agent Hakim Warrick signed a one year deal with the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday.  The Sixers, as well as the Cavaliers, also expressed a great deal of interest in the free agent.  Warrick was the 19th overall pick in the 2005 draft by the Memphis Grizzlies and has spent the past four season with them.  The 6’9” forward played his college ball at Syracuse and won a national championship in his tenure.  The Sixers were looking to close a one year deal reportedly worth around 5 million dollars.  Warrick would have added some much needed depth to the Sixers roster, especially at the forward position.  He appeared in 82 games for the Grizzlies last year, averaging just under 12 points and raking in 5 rebounds per game.  The Sixers couldn’t close the deal and missed out on a solid bench performer with little to no injury history.  Down the stretch, if the Sixers want to win the big games they need to pull in a few guys like Warrick this off season.  The team has too little depth up top with the big men, especially with Elton Brand’s inability to stay healthy.  Also, reports have been surfacing that the team may be looking to deal Thadeus Young and/or Andre Igoudala this off season if the right opportunity presents itself.  This means the Sixers would need to fill those voids as well if these plans are factual.  The free agent pool still contains a good number of difference makers as well, however most of these players could be too pricy for the Sixers.  The bottom line is, a dormant off season for the Sixers could lead to another mediocre performance in 2009-2010.  Let’s make some moves.
