Alright folks, here we go. Back in action from a short absence and two solid games by the beloved Sixers. First things first, on Saturday, Chris Bosh came to town and really did do a number on the Sixers. 29 points, nine rebounds and six assists were on tap as the Toronto Raptors were able to withstand a solid Sixers effort and notch a 108-106 win. Close, but no cigar. Louis Williams and Allen Iverson were able to lead the way in the scoring column for the Sixers with 23 and 22 respectively, but obviously that wasn’t enough.
Why were the Sixers on the losing end of this bout on Saturday? I’m quite confused and can’t really give you a straight answer. What I can give you are positive aspects of our Sixers and how they really did out perform the Raptors. I mean check this, 43-36 rebounding edge, 24-for-25 from the free throw line, and the whole starting five in double digits as far as scoring. Andre Iggy-Dala, Thad Young and Samuel Dalembert were able to clean the glass for 11, 13 and 10 rebounds a piece.
So, after reviewing some of the highlights and getting some things straight, the Sixers lost this one due to a third quarter in which they were outscored by a total of 34-25. This allowed the Raptors to get back into the game and it was a back and forth affair from that point onward. With eight seconds left the Sixers had a chance to tie it up or win with a three, but Iverson gave the ball up to Louis Williams who instead of making a move towards the basket, settled for a roughly 26-27 foot, off balance three ball at the buzzer, which did not fall. There you have it folks, another tough on on the home hard wood of the Wachovia Center.
Game number two this weekend featured the Sixers traveling to the Palace At Auburn Hills to face the Detroit Pistons on Saturday. The result, a 104-94 win over the struggling squad from Detroit who have lost 12 in a row with their last win dating back to December 15. Yikes! But on the upper hand the beloved Sixers took advantage of the opportunity and notched a 10 point victory. Elton Brand came off the bench to score 25 big ones and led the way for six Sixers who scored in double figures. The rest of the important scoring column shaped up with Iguodala, Young, Dalembert, Willie Green and Louis Williams with 10, 16, 16, 15, and 14. Notice, “The Answer,” was not available for this contest due to left knee pain. Or, we can chalk his absence up to the fact that the Pistons completely snubbed Iverson during his rocky stint and Iverson gets mildly ill when stepping foot into the Palace. Either way, your call.
Brand, however was on the inactive list during the home loss to Toronto due to stomach illness. Well, coming off the illness, Brand went ill on the Pistons and showing the mid range game that made him the force he once was and is trying hard to regain. Other notable stats from this win were the rebounding edge yet again with 40-34. The beloved Sixers shot 6-for-9 from down town with Green and Williams netting two apiece. So here we go, gear up for Monday at 7pm as the Sixers travel to the land of New Orleans for a showdown with CP3 and company.
PEACE FROM THE 570!
