Iguodala and Williams walk to the sideline during Monday night's win against the Hornets.
Monday night proved to be another productive performance from the beloved Sixers as they were able to snap the Hornets’ six game winning streak at the Wachovia Center. The 96-92 win marked the Sixers second in a row and five players scored in double figures for the winners. Early on, big Sammy Dalembert made his presence felt by throwing his own block party with four in the first half, three of which were in the first quarter. Dalembert battled some foul trouble late in the first half and into the second, picking up his fourth in the third quarter. That didn’t stop the big man from producing six points, 14 rebounds and five blocked shots to cap off his night.
The Sixers jumped out early and were able to get the three ball working to their advantage. The Sixers ended up shooting 8-for-15 from beyond the arc with Andre Iguodala leading the way with three of his own. The transition game was a big plus for the Sixers as they pushed the ball up the floor time after time. Louis Williams, Iguodala and even Elton Brand found themselves in position to score numerous times on fast break opportunities. This really was a good decision by Eddie Jordan and the team because New Orleans spent most of the first half on it’s heels and trying to get it’s star player into the flow. CP3 ended the first half with a big goose egg in the scoring column.
In the second half, the Sixers let the Hornets inch back into the game and actually experience a few lead changes. One point of concern for the Sixers is their ability to stay active on the defensive glass. A lot of second chance points and put backs were allowed as Emeka Okafur, Darius Songailia, and David West were able to capitalize on the Sixers’ box-out mistakes. Down the stretch, “Sammy D,” was able to deliver the final blow with a right handed hook shot off a pass from Iguodala that put the Sixers ahead, 94-92. A three point attempt over the out stretched arms of Iguodala by Peja Stojakovic fell short and the Sixers came home with the win.
Finishing out the scoring column for the Sixers was Iguodala, Thad Young, Allen Iverson, Williams, and Elton Brand with 18, 12, 16, 12, and 18. Brand really is starting to feel his mid range jumper the last few games. Marreese Speights was held scoreless in limited action and really did not look like the Speights we know can play. A few turnovers and his head seemed to be out of the game completely. The Sixers now gear up for a division game between the New York Knicks on Wednesday at the Wachovia Center. During half time of the game, recording artist Matisyahu will be playing a few of his jams for the home crowd. At 12-25, the Sixers trail New York by three games. The Knicks are 15-22 heading into the contest in the City of Brotherly Love.
PEACE FROM THE 570!
