Offensively Speaking

Okay here we go! We already know to win ball games in the NBA you need to score more points than the other team. Duh! But the Sixers have not always been too keen on getting the rock into the hole consistently. One game the team scores in the 100′s and the next they are held to low 80′s to maybe the 90′s. Then the fluctuation continues on and on. Why is that? Who knows, but from a few visuals and checking out some stats, here is a solution to the problem.

First of all, Eddie Jordan was hired to bring the Princeton offense sense to the squad. Well, that really hasn’t worked thus far and from seeing a lot of the games this season, the jump shooting needs to improve. The three point shot is in the mix when it’s on, but when it’s off look out for cover. Bricks will ensue. In their last two contests, a heart breaker at home to the Knicks and the convincing win over Sacramento, the Sixers have brought an element of surprise to the table. Running the floor ladies and gentleman!

For instance, against the Knicks, the beloved Sixers posted 25 fast break points and 42 total points in the paint. The result, well a one point loss to a division foe. But, nevertheless it was a solid performance with one play here or there that decided the out come. Now, on to the win against Sacramento. 19 fast break points were on tap and 44 total points in the paint was the finishing touch. The moral of the story? Get the ball into the painted area and create high percentage opportunities for yourselves and others.

Let’s face it, the three point shot is not really ringing the Liberty Bells on a consistent basis in the City of Brotherly Love, but the talent and opportunities are there. Andre Iguodala is a slasher who can get his jump shot going at times. As far as hoisting jumper after jumper? Please take a step back and get yourself to the rim with free throw opportunities because that’s the complete player he is. A.I. “The Answer” has arthritis in his knee. His legs are old. Creating mid range opportunities for himself and teammates is his best asset. Keep on keeping on as they say A.I.

The only player who realistically is know for the long distance shot and would score many long distance calls of the game via Zumoff and company is Jason Kapono. He has won three point competitions and has hit some daggers that sunk teams in his career. Only one problem. He is always a DNP Coach’s Decision in the box score. Why? Couldn’t tell you. But one thing is for certain. Moving forward and preparing for a run relies on the offense the Sixers choose to play. Sit back and shoot J’s all day or put pressure on the other team with their athleticism and creativity to steal some big wins.

PEACE FROM THE 570!
