This time of year is always filled with “smoke”, the false rumors that GMs invariably put out there in order to influence the decisions of their GM comrades. It’s just part of the NBA landscape.
Last year, Sixers fans and NBA-types alike were subjected to this smoke coming out of the Sixers organization. Washington, from the start, was clearly gunning for John Wall. The Sixers, meanwhile, had people thinking they would go for any of Evan Turner, Derrick Favors, and DeMarcus Cousins. I even remember that the Sixers were “high” on Wes Johnson, and could have possibly taken him second.
This year, Minnesota is the smoke blower. It’s getting a little ridiculous – reports out of Minnesota and elsewhere have the team trying to trade the second pick for, among others, Steve Nash, Andrew Bynum, Pau Gasol (with Kevin Love?), Andre Iguodala, and Marcin Gortat. A wide range of talents, to say the least.
So here’s a friendly reminder – this time of year is kinda ridiculous when it comes to trade rumors. Just don’t get too caught up with them.
