Live Blog: Draft

Okay, we’ve wrapped up until the Sixers first rounder. They have a second rounder at 50, and we’ll put that up here as it comes along.

9:07 – Sixers take Nikola Vucevic. Center out of USC. Fills a need, not sure how good he’ll be.

9:01 – Leonard goes to Indiana. Not a fit at all, but clearly the best value and player available at 15. Now the Sixers have a choice to make. Who do they take?

8:55 – Houston picked Marcus Morris. Huh? Vucevic, Leonard guaranteed to be here. Interesting. Not sure who the Sixers take. Leonard ranked very highly by many media and team types.

8:52 – The Sixers may be in position to take Vucevic here, if he gets by Houston. I think he does, since Leonard is still there.

8:47 – Uh oh. Markieff Morris is taken. Thought he’d be a safety valve for the Sixers.

8:42 – Alec Burks taken by Utah. Jimmer consolation prize. Morris twins, Vucevic, Hamilton, Singleton, Motiejunas available still.

8:35 – Golden State takes Klay Thompson. Assume they’ll get aggressive with moving Monta now. Please not to us.

8:29 – Sacramento gets its Jimmer.

8:23 – Charlotte grabs Kemba Walker. Kawhi Leonard is still available. And Utah may be screwed in its Jimmer quest.

8:18 - Brandon Knight goes here. I expected them to go big, so that’s good for us.

8:12 – Biyombo goes to Charlotte. Sounds like a million dollar movie. Also, that again does not bode well for the Sixers.

8:10 – Vesely gets drafted by Washington. I’m 3-for-6!

8:04 – Jonas goes to the Raptors. Of course they take a Euro. I did not expect this. Also, 4 bigs in the first 5 picks is not good for the Sixers. Hope that a decent one is left when they draft. Otherwise, they might go with Hamilton/Marcus Morris.

8:01 – For perspective on Thompson, several mocks had the Sixers taking him at 16 early in the draft process.

7:57 – Tristan Thompson goes fourth to Cleveland. Much higher than expected. Shuffles up the order a bit. Cleveland wanted a guy for next year, it looks like.

7:50 – The first domino falls as Enes Kanter goes to Utah. They are after the Jimmer. Or Kemba Walker. But this makes everything else change. Cavs have #4, have no use for Brandon Knight with Irving on board, and may take Valanciunas.

7:45 – Officially, Derrick Williams is a T-Wolf. Now the exciting part starts – does Utah go Knight or Kanter here?

7:40 – Kyrie Irving indeed goes first. Minnesota’s on the clock. Derrick Williams is expected to go here, but it’s not a certainty.

7:35 – Cleveland’s on the clock. Probably Kyrie Irving.

7:28 –  We’ll be chatting in the comments, that way everyone can join. Up here, we’ll update the picks and keep track of how it affects the Sixers.

7:25 – Hey – Sean here – just back from being out for the last 4-5 hours, and ready for the draft.

7:18 – Hello Sixer Sense readers, this is Kyle. Sean will be joining us later.  I want to start out by saying Jimmer needs to lose the derby hat.

  • Sean O`Connor

Well, Stern was booed less than Goodell. Good sign.

  • Kyle Bright

Not only did Stern get booed, he tried to put it on New Jersey that he said was getting booed. My state

    • Sean O`Connor

Stern has been known to be a spin doctor.

  • Kyle Bright

I am always interested in what the players have to think about what the analysts say about them.

  • Sean O`Connor

No surprise, Irving goes first. Real intrigue is at 3/4.

  • Kyle Bright

In about five minutes, my dream of Iggy for the second pick will be squashed.

    • Sean O`Connor

Big believer in Williams? Or would you trade up for Kanter?

  • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

This next pick by the Jazz is interesting. If they do not take Enes Kanter he could fall to at least 7.

    • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

I would trade up for Kanter. He fills the 76ers need and I think he could be the best player in the draft when it is all said and done.

    • Sean O`Connor

Actually think he fits at 4 and 5.

  • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

Favors and Kanter could be a scary combo in the frontcourt in five years, as the Jazz take Kanter with the 3rd pick.

    • Sean O`Connor

It may be scary in two. With Al Jefferson still in the loop (for now) and Millsap, that’s a good frontline if they can add a 3.

  • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

If Valanciunas goes past Cleveland, he will slide to at least seven with Toronto and Washington not needing a center.

    • Sean O`Connor

I don’t think Charlotte takes him at 7 or 9, either. And as I mentioned, Dumars may be fighting for his job at 8. Maybe 11 to Golden State, though I predicted that.

      • Sean O`Connor

        Valanciunas goes to Toronto? Interesting.

  • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

They left Steve Nash off the Canadian draft list. He was picked 15th and he was not on the list.

  • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

Will the Raptors look to trade Bargnani when Valanciunas comes over? They do not need two centers.

    • Sean O`Connor

Bargnani is misplaced as a center. No defense or rebounding. Jonas may be too, but we don’t know yet.

  • Sean O`Connor

    Wow, Jan.

    • Sean O`Connor

Also, like others, I may now be inclined to buy a Jan Vesely jersey.

  • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

Jonas is the romantic type, apparently.

    • Sean O`Connor

      Jan, you mean.

      • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

Yes, I am struggling with these foreign names.

  • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

Brandon Knight is still available, as a side note.

    • Sean O`Connor

That lasted about 10 seconds. Good pick for Pistons. Also, how far does Kemba fall?

  • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

And Brandon Knight is no longer still available.

  • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

I cannot wait until the 76ers pick. There still seems to be a lot of potential targets out there, like my main guy Donatas Montiejunas.

  • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

Kings go with Kemba Wlaker, just as I was thinking the Jazz would have to choose between him and Jimmer.

  • Sean O`Connor

Utah fans may start crying after this pick. They NEED Jimmer.

  • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

Wait, Sean, who’s pick was that really with the three team trade. Kings or Bucks?

  • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

And now I find that it is still Charlotte’s pick. I am so confused.

    • Sean O`Connor

Charlotte gets Biyombo and Kemba Walker. Kings get Jimmer. Milwaukee gets 19.

      • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

        Thanks.

  • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

The Kings have a lot of scorers now. Salmons, Fredette and Evans. Lot of score first guys.

  • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

I also forgot about Marcus Thornton.

    • Sean O`Connor

      Passing is optional.

  • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

Thompson makes it looks as though Golden State will trade Monta Ellis. Hopefully not for Iggy.

  • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

Unless they believe that Burks is a small forward, I do not understand this pick by the Jazz. They just picked Gordon Heyward last year.

    • Sean O`Connor

2/3 isn’t much different, though Hayward needs to get bigger. But it looks like the Sixers either go smaller or take Motiejunas or Faried.

      • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

I hope the pick is Motiejunas.

  • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

With Marcus Morris gone, Kawhi Leonard is still in play. He is probably regretting not participating in the combine. But would the 76ers take Leonard if Indiana does not?

    • Sean O`Connor

Eh, he doesn’t fit a need but could replace Iguodala if they choose that route.

      • Sean O`Connor

But I think Leonard goes here. Someone might trade up to get him here. Or Indiana just takes the value.

  • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

The 76ers have options here like Vucevic or Motiejunas. My problem with Vucevic is that he was only a second round pick until he was measured as the tallest player in the draft.

  • Sean O`Connor

Leonard goes to Indiana. Kyle praying for Motiejunas. Don’t like writing his name, personally. Looking to see where the Sixers go here. Depends on feel for AI9 trade.

    • Sean O`Connor

Traded for George Hill apparently. San Antonio does it again.

  • Sean O`Connor

    I’m ripe with anticipation.

  • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

I could not wait for the 76ers to pick, but I do not love this pick. It seems to be a mpick mostly off height. He was low ranked before he was measured at almost seven foot.

  • Sean O`Connor

    Sorry, Kyle. No Motiejunas.

    • http://thesixersense.com Kyle Bright

Maybe it is for the best. Of course I will now root against Motiejunas.
