Labor Talks Take Bad Turn

David Stern and Adam Silver met with Derek Fisher and Billy Hunter Tuesday. After a July and most of August of no talks; the sides have met a couple of times to try to save the season. But, it seems that things have only gotten worse. Here’s the article. And here are some quotes:

Hunter emerged from today’s meeting with a grim message to players, saying he  felt they may have to sit out half the season before a deal is completed. “There  doesn’t appear to be any progress, Hunter said.

Fisher was nearly as bleak. He said there’s no reason to think that training  camp and preseason games—slated to start in less than three weeks—will begin as  scheduled. “It’s discouraging and unfortunate, but that’s the reality of where  we are right now,” Fisher said.

One of the union’s vice presidents, Roger Mason, caused a stir last week when a  message on his Twitter account claimed that it looked like the season would go  off as planned. Mason later said that his account was hacked. There’s no  mistaking what he tweeted on Tuesday though: “Just finished a long day of  negotiations. Unfortunately we are No Where Near a deal! It’s def  disappointing!”

So that was from the player’s side. I figured the season would not start on time. I still think there will be NBA basketball played this season though. Just not ready to give up yet. Basically, the player’s side say the owners are still presenting the same offer as before. I don’t really care whose fault it is. Both sides are to blame at some point. But, stubbornness won’t get a deal done. Hope they can find some kind of common ground besides wanting to end the lockout. Who knows if there will be a season? I’m still have hope but stuff like this keeps crushing it.

In the meantime…nice win Eagles!
