The season opener was tonight against the Toronto Raptors. They had a slow start, trailing by as much as 9 points. They trailed for the first 23 minutes. The turning point came in the last few minutes of the second quarter. The Sixers were trailing 37-28. The Sixers ended up 54-37 midway through the 3rd quarter. So, not only did the offense step up, but the defense shut down the Raptor offense.
Marreese Speights had a really bad first half, scoring only 4 points on 29% shooting. He ended up leading the Sixers in scoring with 16 points on 62% shooting. But, the “Jordan Player of the Game” was Jrue Holiday. He had a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists. He also had 5 rebounds. In all, there was 7 players scoring in double figures. Jrue and Speights were already mentioned. The other 5 players were Thaddeus Young (12), Lou Williams (11), Spencer Hawes (10), Elton Brand (10), and Andre Iguodala (10).
The final score was 90-80. Sixers lead by as much 21 points. Raptors did come back within 3 points (Wow! A typical Sixers game.), but the Sixers held them off.
I should tell you that the starting 5 was Holiday, Iguodala, Young, Brand, and Speights. Evan Turner, Andres Nocioni, and Craig Brackins also played. Expect them to have significant minutes in the season.
Next game is the home opener vs the Timberwolves. A winnable game indeed.
