Red, White, and Blue Power Rankings: 1/29-2/4

Sixers are doing well during their toughest stretch so far this season. Wizards are starting to convince me that they are a basketball fail. Hawks look like that Horford injury is catching up to them. Nets are somewhat decent. Pistons win at home and lose on the road. Clippers beat some good teams and lose to other good teams. Also, a semi-rant about Blake Griffin and Lob City (you know you want to read that!) Let’s see just where each team started up. And yeah, I’m ready for some football! If only for the commercials. Jump with me!

Week Review: Current Week (Last Week)

Sixers: 1 (1)

Week Record: 3-1 (my prediction was 2-2)

Sixers have proven to me that they are legit. What do I mean by that? Well I feel they can beat any team in this league. They have a real shot. Does that make them contender status? I actually don’t think they are there yet. Serious clutch problems lurk deep in the shadows. Sixers also have serious problems facing the Heat. Still, Sixers are now a team to beat if you want to say “We’re a good team too”. All this without the superstar. Good for them.

Clippers: 2 (2)

Week Record: 4-1 (my prediction was 3-2)

Clippers were following the script until they beat the Thunder. I knew they would split their meetings with the Nuggets and beat the Jazz and Wizards. Oh well, that win on the Thunder was good for them, even though they did get blown out by the Nuggets. If the Clippers had a tougher schedule than Sixers, but still had a 4-1 week, they would obviously be in first. Clippers have yet face the Sixers though.

Hawks: 3 (4)

Week Record: 2-2 (my prediction was 3-1)

Ugh my predictions are off this week for sure. But I think we all knew Hawks would be in the top 3 again after falling out last week. Alright Hawks beat who they were suppose to beat (Hornets and Raptors) and lost to good teams (Sixers and Grizzlies). Didn’t think that game vs Grizzlies would go like that but oh well. It looks like the Horford injury is catching up with them possibly. I was surprised they were hanging around this long. Of course, Hawks haven’t technically collapsed yet so we still should give them the benefit of the doubt.

Pistons: 4 (6)

Week Record: 2-3 (my prediction was 1-4)

Whatever. Pistons jumped up from last place. They took in the true meaning of “home court advantage” and “home sweet home”. How? Well their back-back-back was all on the road. And they lost each one. Then they came home for two games and won them both. And that was

cool

good enough to get back into 4th place.

Nets: 5 (3)

Week Record: 1-4 (my prediction was 2-3)

This prediction thing is tough. I’m a man though so I’ll suck it up. Nets were going to fall. They seem like that team that is like on the verge of winning, but can’t quite get over that hump. Like when you feel a sneeze coming on and you brace yourself for it but it just doesn’t quite happen. I have crappy indoor, outdoor, and food allergies so trust me on this: I sneeze.

Wizards: 6 (5)

Week Record: 0-4 (my prediction was 1-3)

FAIL!

I was thinking about only using that word to describe the week but that wouldn’t be right. Look, Wizards are not dead yet. Obviously, the coach wasn’t the problem (gasp!) This team is just poorly built. I’m willing to give some time for management to hopefully make the right moves. They suck enough that they’ll be getting a high pick. They have young pieces that could maybe, sorta, be traded. I still see the potential. Oh don’t get me wrong: Wizards suck! But not like they are a bunch of old losers or something. They have room to make improvements. Until then, they are the laughing stock of the league.

Week Preview: 2/5-2/11

Sixers’ tough stretch of games continues as the face the Lakers, Spurs, and Clippers. Oh and the actually-better-than-I-thought-they-would-be Cavaliers are on the list too. As I said, Sixers should win at least 3 games from the current stretch of games (Monday vs Magic and ending vs Clippers this week) They already hit the 3-mark. I see a win on Clippers. I actually see a loss to Lakers if only because the size Lakers have. Of course, Kobe could shoot the life of the Lakers’ game giving the Sixers some chance. They should beat Cavaliers too. Spurs I think can beat beaten. I’ll go out there and say 3-1. God help me.

Clippers are in for a long week. They have 4 games this week; all on the road. Magic, Cavaliers, Sixers, and Bobcats. Once again, their week is seemingly easier than Sixers’ week. Looking at the Magic and their problems, Clippers may actually win that one. Should be able to beat Cavs too. Lose to Sixers (I hope), and beat Bobcats. We’ll say 2-2 though.

Hawks have a weird week in that I don’t know how to predict it. Suns, Pacers, and Magic. I see a win on Suns. A loss on Pacers. That Magic game has me all messed up. It feels like a

Tony Battie night

win, but I’m not convinced Hawks are up for the challenge. Keep it 1-2.

Pistons will have a shot at staying in 4th place. Could maybe move up? Uh…wait a moment… *checks schedule* They only have two games…and they are both against the Nets. Hm. Ok 1-1. That was easy. So what’s the Net’s schedule this week…

Nets…ouch. They face the Pistons twice. But the game before the meetings is vs Bulls and the game after the meetings is the Spurs. So yeah, ouch. At least they are at home. Nets go 1-1 vs Pistons and lose to both Bulls and Spurs. So 1-3 for the week. I’d think they would really pounce on the Pistons based on the fact that it would be their “easiest” win(s) of the week. We’ll see.

Wizards. Raptors, Knicks, and Heat. Wizards have potential to beat Raptors. I’m going to give them that game. As bad as Knicks are, I don’t think Wizards beat them. If the Wizards beat the Heat…I will then accept the Mayan’s prediction of the world ending in 2012. Ok, maybe not, but you can imagine the heat the Heat would be getting (see what I did there? No one said it had to be funny). 1-2.

My predictions were off this week. Cut me some slack; I’m not God or something. Sheesh. So the Clippers and Sixers have been the kings of these rankings all season. But they have never met. We’ll need to ask the Sixers to tell us which L.A. team is better. And Sixers will have to watch for the flopping, over hyped dunker slash person who lays up the ball half the time, player in Blake Griffin. I’d like the Sixers to shut down Lob City. Burn it to the ground. We talkin bout Iraqing that place up (yeah I know Sixers are home)! Oh I’m sorry, my emotions got the best of me there. Go Sixers!
