76ers Sign Nick Young and Amnesty Elton Brand

The 76ers took a low risk by signing the SG Nick Young to a one year deal worth $6 million. Yeah, it’s only one year. Young is a decent shooter, which is something the Sixers obviously need. It remains seen if he starts for the team though. Something like Jrue, Young, and Turner (if Iguodala gets traded too). You can’t hate this deal unless the Sixers decide to bring back Lou Williams as well.

The Sixers then amnestied Elton Brand. This clears up $18 million in cap space. He was the 10th highest paid player last season. He was paid more than the big 3 in Miami. And again, now that money can be used to bring in players like a back-up PG. We got a scorer in Young but if it doesn’t work out, the team isn’t stuck with him.

I like both of the moves. Time to try something. Sixers are making a few moves here that will make them better in the long haul. No, it’s still nowhere near contention. But, this team is moving in that direction. Trading Iguodala is the move I’m waiting for though.

With Hawes coming back and Allen and Moultrie and Thad Young in rotation too, Elton didn’t really have to stay. But, I wouldn’t be surprised if a big man comes in a deal with an Iguodala trade.

The best part: Keep Sam Young. Now the Sixers are forever Young with 3 of them. We should just be the Philadelphia Youngsters. I’m just having a little fun with it. What do you think about all of this? You like the moves made today?
