Today, the Philadelphia 76ers announced that they have signed their two draft picks Maurice Harkless and Arnett Moultrie. Harkless was the 15th overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft and Moultrie was the 27th overall pick by the Miami Heat. Moultrie became a Sixer after he was traded on draft night to the Heat for Justin Hamilton (45th overall pick) and a protected first round pick in the future. Maurice “Moe” Harkless came out of St. John’s after his freshman season and he had a great season for the Red Storm. He averaged 36.1 minutes, 15.3 points, and 8.6 rebounds per game. Harkless will be a contributor at the small forward position as a rookie as he has the skills to be a big time player.
On the other hand, Moultrie came out after his junior year at Mississippi State. Moultrie was a double-double machine for the Bulldogs as he averaged 15.8 and 10.6 rebounds per game. Moultrie should see a lot of playing time if he can out play the likes of Nikola Vucevic and Lavoy Allen. Nik and Lavoy played big roles for the Sixers last season as rookies especially in the playoffs, in which Lavoy played big minutes versus the Bulls and Celtics. We will see what these young kids can do to help the Sixers push forward as they are definitely reshaping this team for the future.
