Philadelphia 76ers vs Dallas Mavericks: Preview

The 76ers will face the Mavericks in Philadelphia in what is the return of Elton Brand. Game time is at 7pm and the Sixers will be on CSN as well as NBA TV. Fans actually vote for the game they want to see on NBA TV each Tuesday so this game won.

The Sixers are in an interesting position as the Mavs have been without Dirk Nowitzki for a while and will not have him tonight. Also, the Mavs are coming off a terrible loss to the Lakers trailing as much as 37 points.

There are two trends to consider here: The Sixers have won 3 of their last four at home while the Mavs have lost 4 games out of 5 on the road. The second trend though is that the Sixers have lost 10 of their last 12 meetings vs the Mavs. Something’s gotta give. Sixers’ defense allows only 93.4 points per game but Mavericks are averaging 100.4 points. Again, something’s gotta give.

Looking at the stats, the teams seem evenly matched with rebounding, assists, and shooting %. But, again, Sixers will need to focus on stopping Darren Collison aka Jrue Holiday’s clone, from getting into the lane and creating havoc. O.J. Mayo needs to be stopped as he leads the team in scoring at 21.5. Mayo can get into the lanes or hit the 3-ball so it’s a pick your poison type thing. In fact, he’s 2nd in the NBA in made 3-pointers while shooting at a deadly 53%. He’s 6th in scoring too. So yeah, Sixers will have their hands full on this guy.

All things considered, I do think the game will be fun to watch. I think it’ll be close but ultimately I have to stick with my power rankings predictions so Mavericks win.
