Keys to the Game: Philadelphia 76ers vs Brooklyn Nets

The Philadelphia 76ers come home after a 3 game trip to face the Brooklyn Nets. They’ll be on CSN and you can listen to them on 97.5 The Fanatic. The game starts at 7 pm.

The Sixers continue their impressive slide as they lost last night vs the Orlando Magic. They are on a 5 game losing streak. The streak promises to continue tonight vs the Nets. But, let’s see how the Sixers could possibly pull a win out.

Peeking at SI.com, the Nets are 4th best defensively while being the best in the division. But, they are 26th offensively. Sixers are bad on offense and good on defense themselves so this promises to be a brick fest.

Another thing is rebound. Reggie Evans alone was out rebounding the Sixers’ team at least through the first half. That’s not good. And he would’ve kept it going if the Nets played him enough in the second half. Of course, the Sixers have always had problems rebounding the ball but Evans and Kris Humpries are going to have a field day on those boards.

Jrue’s been off his shot but it’s on defense that he’ll need at be at his best. Deron Williams is a tough cover to say the least. And recently he exploded for 42 points on 11-16 shooting…from 3 point land. Help. Jrue will need help though. Nets have some shooters too with 4 players shooting at least 37% from the 3. So Sixers need to make sure not to leave anybody open. Duh but watching this team…yeah.

Even in these keys, I can’t see the Sixers winning this one. Damian Wilkins has been great (!?!?!?!?) but is Gerald Wallace and his known defense finally going to bring Wilkins back to earth? Can the Sixers get consistent scoring from anybody besides Thad Young?

My prediction for this game though is that Jrue breaks out of his slump. You look at his last 5 games and he hasn’t faced great PG’s during that time. In fact, the only Sixers’ win this month was vs the Warriors and on the verge great player Stephan Curry. Perhaps another match-up with another great PG will get Jrue out of his funk.

Game starts at 7 pm.
