Why The Sixers Should Pursue Josh Smith

The Sixers are heading into an off-season in which they have to get down to business. This team has more questions than answers, and must fill the holes.

Josh Smith is a guy that the Sixers should definitely pursue. This 6’9″ forward would make a great addition to the 76ers. First off, we know what he brings to a team, and that is production. This season, Smith is averaging 17.4 points, 4.3 assists, and 8.5 rebounds per game. The Sixers need a guy who can score and who can rebound, so Smith would be the guy for the job. This season, the Sixers struggled tremendously when it came to rebounding and they are also ranked 29th overall in scoring. The numbers that Smith puts up would be a huge boost.

Smith is also a guy who isn’t very injury-prone. Sure, he has dealt with injuries here and there, but he hasn’t been out for extended periods of time, unlike Andrew Bynum. In addition, Smith is just 27 years old. Adding a player in his prime, and that is still improving is always beneficial to a team.

Smith would also compliment Jrue Holiday. Some of the pressure would fall on Smith’s shoulders instead of Jrue having to carry the load every night. Holiday’s assists numbers would go up, and the two would make one of the better duos in the league.

Smith is an overall great basketball player that possesses elite athleticism. If the Sixers can find a way to sign Josh Smith this summer, Sixers’ fans will have an exciting 2013-2014 season to look forward to.
