The Sixers decided to bring in a new man to lead the franchise when they hired Sam Hinkie as their General Manager. Hinkie spent 8 years in Houston and has compiled some nice draft picks and a very good James Harden trade. His first job will be to find a man to lead his team on the court. The main focus of his search should be for Brian Shaw, an assistant f0r the Pacers. Shaw has been coveted by the Nets and with the Pacers season over he is now able to be interviewed. With the termination of his contract by the Nuggets, George Karl’s name should be coming up in head coaching discussions. Karl is a veteran coach who has had success in this league for many years. Other than those two names, the Sixers will have to look for re tread coaches or find unknown assistants in the league.
With the draft only a few weeks away, the Sixers will have the 11th pick. At the current moment they are projected to take Kelly Olynyk, a 7’0 center from Gonzaga. He has size, but seems a bit weak as a post defender who could get manhandled at the next level. They also are looking at Steven Adams of Pittsburgh and Lucas Nogueira, a power forward from Brazil who draws comparisons to Joakim Noah. A guy who is falling down the draft board is Shabazz Muhammad, a small forward from UCLA who is a great slasher but has trouble creating his own shot. Although he is not a huge necessity, he may turn out to be one of the best in this draft. A big man is the biggest need for this team, but it just seems like other than Nerlens Noel and Anthony Bennett there are not franchise changing guys in this draft.
