The 76ers just couldn’t get over the hump and ultimately lost to the Celtics. For most of the game, the Sixers were playing catch up. They trailed for most of the game by a range of four-to-ten points. The Celtics got a lead and then the Sixers would push back only to have the Celtics hold them off.
Thad Young led the way for the Sixers in many ways, including scoring 20 points. He provided energy including one possession where he forced a loose ball, recovered it by diving on the floor, and then scoring the put back as the Sixers tried to take advantage. Other than that, he actually wasn’t playing too well. He ended up slowed down a little by foul trouble as he ended with five of them.
The Celtics were led by Jeff Green who simply would not let the Sixers win. He was responsible for getting any shot to fall when the Sixers got close. He even single handily led a run of scoring eight straight points. He ended the game with 36 points on 18 shots. He also had eight rebounds.
Rondo also looked a lot like the Rondo we’ve been acustomed to seeing, scoring 9 points, 8 rebounds and 11 assists with only three turnovers. He was responsible for making Jeff Green look like LeBron James for the majority of the game.
I mentioned in the game preview that the Sixers were in danger of doing something that they hadn’t done since Allen Iverson was a rookie. The Sixers have lost six straight home games and four games overall. But it’s the home game losing streak that we haven’t seen since that time in the 96-97 season. Will the streak continue? Next game is vs the Lakers on Friday. Initial thoughts are that they win the game, the Lakers almost didn’t finish their game on Thursday because they didn’t have enough players.
The tank battle continues vs the Lakers on Friday.
