76ers Downplaying Nerlens Noel "4-4-14" Tweet

76ers twitter-sphere went insane after Nerlens Noel tweeted the simple date of: 4-4-14. Well, why wouldn’t we? In the midst of one of the longest losing streak in history, fans are grabbing at anything to give them relief from this horrific season. One possibly way that could happen is seeing Nerlens Noel playing NBA minutes. As we all assumed upon seeing this tweet, this would be the debut of Nerlens Noel. It would be in a game at Boston, in Nerlens hometown — a storybook beginning to what everyone hopes is a long and successful NBA career. However, we all jumped the gun and forgot that the 76ers have to clear Noel — he can’t clear himself.

There interesting thing about all of this, is because Noel is out due to injury, he isn’t available to the media. Essentially, no one will get to talk to Nerlens about this tweet and his actual intentions by it. Apparently coach Brett Brown isn’t going to be the one to ask about the tweet either (via Philly.com):

“I’ve only heard about it and I haven’t sat down and grilled him on that,” coach Brett Brown insisted before last night’s 123-110 loss to the New York Knicks. “I don’t know the mystery and I think it’s been blown out of proportion. At some point, yes [he'll talk to Noel]. We’ve been moving around pretty quickly here in New York and I haven’t dug in maybe like I should have, but at some point, yes.”
“I see him feeling like he’s moving in a direction that is positive,” Brown said. “He’s looking to bang a little bit more. He’s looking to shoot a little bit more. It’s still really early. I don’t want to mislead anybody, but I can see that he is getting a little bit more aggressive in his nature and a little bit more engaging with the things that we do, albeit brief, in practice.”
The 76ers continue to remain hush on the tweet and it’s actual meaning. Yes, Nerlens Noel is progressing and there are no apparent setbacks. This is a positive things and something that should make fans happy, but we all want to see him on the court. There is no real indication of what this tweet means and it’s doubtful that it will ever come to fruition. His tweet could be a target date Noel wants to debut on, which is great to hear. If Noel thinks he will be game ready in less than a month, then that would be a joyous thing for everyone to see. Even if it’s just a six or seven game sample — let’s throw him in there and see him swat a couple shots and knock down a few jumpers. If Nerlens Noel is healthy, he should play, no matter how many games are left in the season.
Will we see Nerlens Noel on the court on 4-4-14? Anyone’s guess is as good as mine at this point. Just be clear that Nerlens Noel would have to begin practicing 5-on-5 before there are any real discussions about him playing a game. If it leaks out that Nerlens Noel is participating in 5-on-5 practices in a few weeks, than this thing might really begin to catch some wind. However, for now, it’s just mere hope.
