Well, surprise surprise! The 76ers Michael Carter-Williams has reportedly won (or will win) the Rookie of the Year award. Michael Carter-Williams averaged 16.7 points, 6.3 assists, and 6.2 rebounds this season, and will stand with Allen Iverson as the only Sixers to win Rookie of the Year honors.
Amongst the other accolades MCW piled up this season, he won the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month, four out of the six months it was awarded this season. How does this award set up MCW and Philadelphia for the future? The past five winners of the Rookie of the Year award are: Damian Lillard, Kyrie Irving, Blake Griffin, Tyreke Evans, and Derrick Rose — mighty good company for the Syracuse product.
Bravo to Sam Hinkie for finding the Rookie of the Year with the 11th pick of an otherwise, pretty terrible, draft class. Michael Carter-Williams, along with the 76ers, have a bright future together. With Nerlens Noel in the fold, along with two lottery picks coming, could the Sixers have another Rookie of the Year award winner next season?
That will be decided in the future. But, for now, lets congratulate Michael Carter-Williams on his historic season!
