Philadelphia 76ers Take Parker and Saric In Latest Mock Draft

DraftExpress.com has finally added team needs into their updated mock draft. Well, after reading it, I’m not sure they really have. The mock draft has the Sixers taking Duke forward Jabari Parker with the second overall pick and Dario Saric, an international forward prospect. The 76ers taking two players at the same position in the lottery would be the most confusing thing since the Timberwolves selected Jonny Flynn and Ricky Rubio in the lottery years ago…and we all see how that worked out.

Even more intriguing, is that DX has the Denver Nuggets taking Arizona power forward, Aaron Gordon, with the 11th pick. If the Sixers are on the clock at No. 10 and Aaron Gordon is still available, I don’t see any reason the Sixers wouldn’t select him. His athleticism is unmatched and his lock down defense is something this squad sourly needs.

Of course, there is no issue with the selection of Jabari Parker if the Sixers do land the No. 2 overall pick and Andrew Wiggins is taken by the Milwaukee Bucks. With the 76ers luck, some Andrew Bynum voodoo magic will come and drop the 76ers to the fourth or fifth selection. If the 76ers pick up Dante Exum, then I’ll be satisfied. But, still, Jabari Parker or Andrew Wiggins are the gold prizes in this draft class.

The problem with Saric and Parker is the fact that neither play defense. Jabari Parker’s struggles on defense are well noted, but Saric is the same case. Both have a ton of upside on the offensive end, but not so much on the other side of the ball. Selecting Aaron Gordon over Saric in this situation seems like a no brainer.

Here is why Draft Express has the Sixers taking Saric at No. 10:

With their second lottery pick, Philadelphia can afford to take a swing on a player who is unlikely to join them next season, which they may actually view as being somewhat of an advantage. Saric is hoping to play one or two more seasons in Europe before entering the NBA, but will be looking for assurances he’ll be picked in the lottery prior to the withdrawal deadline of June 16th nevertheless.

While it appears true that Saric might not come over right away, this is still puzzling. There aren’t enough basketballs to go around for MCW, Saric and Parker. There’s barely enough for Parker and MCW as it stands. I’m just confused. There’s no way this happens if Aaron Gordon is still on the board. Plus, that trio would easily give up 110 points per game. I don’t expect the Sixers to win that many more games next season, but there needs to be some defensive presence on the court, besides Noel. Having Gordon and Noel at the rim would sure up a lot of the defensive ineptitude the Sixers have.

Take a look at the mock draft, linked above. Do you agree with what Draft Express has the Sixers doing?
