The Sixers received Tony Wroten for virtually nothing, a protected second-round selection that will probably never be converted to Memphis. A former first-round pick, Wroten was thrown away by the Grizzlies before he could ever prove himself. Boy, did he prove himself this season. How’s NBA history sound for proving his worth?
On November 13th, 2013, Tony Wroten would start his first NBA game. Most players probably remember their first start, it’s pretty significant for most players. However, this game would ensue that Wroten would NEVER forget his first career NBA start.
In 41-plus minutes, Wroten tallied 18 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. It was the first triple-double of Wroten’s career. More importantly, Tony Wroten was the first player in NBA HISTORY to compile a triple-double in his 1st start. There’s NBA history for a guard who only played 44 games prior to this game.
Who knows what the future holds for Wroten, as he had an up and down season. One thing is for sure: The 76ers are going to get a lot more out of Wroten than the Grizzlies ever did.
