NBA Draft Lottery 2014: The 76ers Historic Lucky Odds

Today is the day. After enduring a 63-loss season, the NBA Draft Lottery is finally upon us. In just a few short hours, it will be revealed if all the tanking was worth it. The Sixers do have a tale of good luck when dealing with the lottery.

Since 1990 (introduction of current lottery format), the Sixers have never dropped down from their lottery position. That’s good news. Actually, that’s amazing news. Tonight should be about good feels and good feels only, no negativity allowed here.

However, there is some bad news that comes along with taking that No. 2 draft lottery position. That slot has a long and tough history of falling, crashing, and burning to the depths of hell. Since 1990, the No. 2 pick has stayed put TWICE. That’s means the pick has either moved up or down 22 times since 1990. That’s scary. The pick has moved up twice and dropped 20 times. Good lord, I’m starting to sweat.

Below, one will find the history of the No. 2 pick dropping and the Sixers luck in the lottery (via NJ.com):

Entering Lottery with 2nd best chances at No. 1:

The No. 2 selection hasn’t moved up to No. 1 since 1996, it’s time. It’s been 18 years since the No. 2 slot in the lottery has produced a No. 1 overall pick. Some people might view that as a negative, but let’s take it in as a positive. I mean, it has to happen sooner or later right?

Nothing but good vibes tonight people, nothing but good vibes. Keep cheering for the pick and make this dream a reality. I believe in you. Remember, the Sixers have NEVER dropped down in the lottery.

The NBA Draft Lottery is upon us and Philadelphia is going to come out swinging.
