NBA Draft Lottery 2014: Initial Reactions to 76ers Picks

After months on months of waiting, the 2014 NBA Draft Lottery has come and gone before our eyes. The 76ers landed the No. 3 and No. 10 selections in the June draft. Let’s be merry people.

I’m trying to calm down and get over the fact that the Cleveland Cavaliers landed the No. 1 overall pick with a ONE PERCENT chance. The Cavaliers have the No. 1 overall pick for the third time in four years and they STILL WON’T make the playoffs next year.

Regardless of what happened with the Cavaliers, the Sixers have a top three pick. We should be happy. Let’s rejoice. It could have been No. 4, it could have been No. 5. It’s not, its the third overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. One of the most heavily loaded draft classes in recent history.

The 76ers will end up with Embiid, Wiggins, Parker, or Exum. That’s a victory right there. Let’s hope the Cavaliers screw up the selection like always. Whatever happens, it will be a good player. The conspiracy theories are going to go insane after this moment, but that’s okay. The 76ers landed with the No. 3 and No. 10 overall picks.

Just remember, the Cavs moved up at the No. 9 slot in the draft. One spot earlier and it would have been the Pelicans moving into the top three of the draft and not the Cavaliers. The 76ers would have only had one lottery pick instead of two. It could have been worse, which is my point.

This isn’t the best case scenario, but it’s not the worse or anything close to it. Someone with superstar potential will be headed to Philadelphia in a month and everyone better be happy as hell over it.

Say the Cavaliers prize Jabari Parker and the Bucks covet Joel Embiid, then Wiggins still lands in Philadelphia. Don’t pay attention to any mock drafts at this point. Only the teams really know what they want to do and they sure as hell aren’t going to let that information be leaked out to the internet.

It’s going to be a crazy month leading up to the NBA Draft, that’s for certain.

Was losing 63 games worth it? At this point, absolutely. A top three pick is ours in one of the best drafts in recent history. Can’t hate on that. No one knows how the dominoes are going to fall, all we know is that the 76ers will be the third domino to fall. Hell of a lot better than the fourth or fifth.

Keep it in perspective here. The Sixers have the No. 3 and No. 10 picks, be happy. Be merry and enjoy your night, Philadelphia.
