According to a report from Liberty Ballers, 76ers forward Thaddeus Young is expected to opt out of his contract next season, barring a trade this offseason or at the trade deadline. This should come as a surprise to no one. The bigger surprise is that we’re still talking about Thaddeus Young wearing a 76ers uniform after the 2014 NBA Draft occurred. Thaddeus Young holds a player option after this season and expects to decline that option if he’s still on the team.
However, it’s highly unlikely that Thaddeus Young is still a member of this team by the time the season starts, let alone the trade deadline. The value for Thaddeus Young might not be skyrocketing, it’s probably somewhere around a contending teams first-round selection, maybe a package of second-round picks at this point. He’s still a very valuable player for a contending team, especially after his successful 2013-2014 campaign where he averaged 17.9 points and 6.0 rebounds. Remember, Young is still “young” as he just turned 26 after his seventh year in the NBA.
All of Philadelphia should want the best for Thaddeus Young. He’s been nothing but the upmost professional in his time here and has endured some really tough seasons without creating any ruckus. His time in Philadelphia is numbered, but I’m sure everyone will be happy to see him off to a contending team where his skills can really be put to use. Not to mention, it means more picks for the Sixers when he eventually winds up being traded. YAY PICKS.
