Yesterday, Brian Windhorst of ESPN announced on his radio show that the Cavaliers and Timberwolves have a “handshake” agreement to send Kevin Love to Cleveland and Andrew Wiggins to Minnesota as the headliners of the deal. This is a handshake agreement for now, because Andrew Wiggins cannot be traded until July 23 when the moratorium period ends.
It appears that Philadelphia is involved in the deal and that a potential deal could send former No. 1 overall pick Anthony Bennett to the City of Brotherly Love. To be correct, what it sounds like is that Bennett would originally be sent to Minnesota, but the T’Wolves would re-route him to Philadelphia for the services of Thaddeus Young. There are picks involved somewhere, but there was no mention if they are coming Philly’s way or not.
After a disappointing rookie season suffering from injuries and asthma, Bennett was looking like one of the worst No. 1 overall picks of all time. After a long summer break, Bennett rebounded in Summer League and averaged 13.3 points and 7.8 rebounds per contest.
Thaddeus Young will likely opt out of his contract after this season if he stays in Philadelphia, so it’s smart for the 76ers to get something for him while they can. Getting a very young former No. 1 overall pick is quite the return and things will be even sweeter if a pick(s) come along with it.
Who’s ready for the Anthony Bennett era in Philadelphia? Anyone?
