Report: 76ers Thaddeus Young Being Traded to Minnesota Timberwolves

For one final time, this appears to be the last trade rumor involving Thaddeus Young, and for once, it’s actually happening. The man that has been involved in trade rumors since last summer has finally been traded, reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports

Anthony Bennett coming to the 76ers was just a pipe dream, it appears. Most people in Philadelphia overvalued Young’s projected trade value. However, the return for a player that was going to leave after this season is decent.

The 76ers are receiving a 2015 top-10 protected first-round pick from the Miami Heat, shooting guard Alexyy Shved, and forward Luc Mbah a Moute for the services of Thaddeus Young, who is now a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Why is this good return?

Well getting a first-round pick is always a good thing, especially one from a team that just lost the best player in the NBA in LeBron James. Not to mention, Luc Mbah a Moute was the player that discovered Joel Embiid in Cameroon and he will be instrumental in Embiid’s recovery process.

Shved just completed his second year and is a 6’6″ guard from Russia. He averaged 8.6 points in his rookie year and 4.0 in his second season. His minutes were severely reduced last season, which explain the scoring decrease. Shved has yet to shoot over 40 percent from the field or 30 percent from deep, but he’s a young energetic player that can be fun to watch at times.

Luc Mbah a Moute is from Cameroon and is a 6 year NBA veteran. He has averaged 6.3 points and 4.9 rebounds in his NBA career and is known for being a solid defender in the post. However, his most important contribution will be mentoring Joel Embiid through his rehab process.

Both Mbah a Moute and Shved have expiring contracts that come off the books after this season, so don’t get too attached to them in a 76ers uniform.

OH yeah, Arnett Moultrie is now the longest tenured player on the 76ers roster so, enjoy.
