The Philadelphia 76ers have a ton of injuries, including a surgery that Nerlens Noel must now undergo, and growing complications with Jerryd Bayless.

The Philadelphia 76ers have dealt with their fair share of injuries over the past several seasons. Without a doubt, Sixers fans thought they had paid their dues to the “injury gods” or whoever controls that in the NBA world, but apparently it wasn’t enough.

The Sixers reportedly have trouble on the front of several different injuries with different players.

Let’s update some of the good news first. Jahlil Okafor appears ready to go, and was confident heading into Friday night’s matchup against the Miami Heat. He is looking to play, despite not appearing in any games so far this preseason.

Now for some bad stuff.

Okafor’s counterpart in the frontcourt, Nerlens Noel, recently reported to the training staff soreness in his left knee. His place is inflamed, and, “Noel has elected to address the injury via a minor surgical procedure in the coming days,” according to the team. No timetable was given for his return.

3-6 (or 4-6 weeks, according to WebMD) is a typical recovery time for this surgery.

Jerryd Bayless is still having trouble with his wrist, and it appears that the team is also having trouble figuring out exactly what is going on with it. They have decided that going with surgery is not the route they want to take (at least yet) and the team will continue to monitor it. In the meantime, no timetable is given for his return, but the team will re-evaluate him in two weeks.

It’s likely that at this time, if no progression is made, they may look to surgery.

Lastly, and this isn’t necessarily new news, is that Brett Brown retracted his initial “statement” regarding Ben Simmons. After shoot around in Miami, Brown indicated that Simmons was on track to return to basketball in January. This follows the team saying that there was no timetable for Simmons.

The team went back to that, and according to Keith Pompey’s Twitter timeline, Brown was talking more in hypotheticals.

"“I was just getting excited about how soon he might be able to come back. There are so many speculations and dates as a coach, you sort of hear what you want to hear at a time. I did mention a hopeful January return. That is premature.”"

So, we’re back to square one with Simmons as well.

So, if you’re losing track, the Sixers will first re-evaluate Bayless in 2 weeks, and then Noel will likely return 2-4 weeks after that. Simmons will likely be back in January according to normal timetables from that surgery, but the team is not willing to fully commit to that yet.

Let’s continue to try to see the bright side, though. Embiid is healthy, and progressing very well. Okafor is back to basketball. The future is still bright, even if injuries seem to keep piling up for the Sixers.
