Despite the negative press and the horrific circumstances, Philadelphia 76ers must choose to invest in Jahlil Okafor now

You cannot see the light of the moon on a sunny day. You cannot see the light of stars in the vicinity of a full moon. Luminescence from a brighter object blinds the eye to the less bright object. So it should not fall as any surprise that the Philadelphia 76ers fans cannot get a full appreciation for the positive qualities of center Jahlil Okafor.

You see, he is a moon, trying to shine in the sky alongside sunny center Joel Embiid.

And like the moon next to the sun, it’s virtually impossible to see those positive qualities. But its time to don the shades and try.  Or wait until your eyes adjust to the current situation, and refocus. Jahlil Okafor deserves more than a fire sale. In fact, he is a key player to invest time and energy in this offseason.

Compare And Contrast

Jahlil Okafor is 21 years old. Joel Embiid is 23 years old.  Jahlil Okafor is playing in his second NBA season. Joel Embiid rehabbed for two seasons.  Joel Embiid has been the presumed franchise-changing center for the Philadelphia 76ers. Since his arrival, Jahlil Okafor has been discussed as trade bait to the point where fans of the Philadelphia 76ers were disappointed that no trade was made for Okafor, despite the lukewarm market for his play.

More from The Sixer Sense

Time to focus on those positives once more.  Jahlil Okafor deserves someone to speak up on his behalf.  His recent play needs no excuses.  In the past 50 minutes of game play, he has scored 45 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, dished off 3 assists, rejected 5 shots, and shot 59.3 percent from the floor.

So why is anyone trying to give him away for a six-pack of beer and some pretzels?
