The Philadelphia 76ers have four second round picks and they are looking to trade one of them. There are several teams that could be interested in a pick.

The 2017 NBA draft is less than two weeks away. Most fans cannot hold in their excitement as their respective teams to continue to grow. Currently the Philadelphia 76ers have five total picks this upcoming draft, four of which are in the second round. According to Keith Pompey of Philly.com, the Sixers are looking to trade at least one of the second around picks they own. If this turns out to be true it would be a great move for the Sixers. There are several teams that could use an extra second round pick in this year’s deep draft. When evaluating which teams could want to trade for the Sixers second round pick there is several things to keep in mind. Teams would only want the Sixers pick if they are in a rebuild, do not have a second around pick, or no first around selection.

Teams That Need It.

The Miami Heat could definitely use a second round pick. They only have one pick at the end of the lottery and are in full rebuild mood. All three members of the Big Three are now out of Miami and Pat Riley and the Heat must look at a mini rebuild. They have some good young pieces in Hassan Whiteside and Justice Winslow. If the Heat want to return to their contender status they must gain more pieces in the draft.

The Dallas Mavericks are in full rebuild mood right now. Dirk Nowitzki is at the twilight of his career and they are developing young talent in Dallas. With young players like Harrison Barnes, Nerlens Noel, Seth Curry, and Yogi Ferrell. Dallas is off to a great start in their rebuild, but they need more and even though they have the ninth overall pick they could still build more by obtaining a second round.

The Washington Wizards are very much a contending team so the question becomes why are they on this list. They traded their first round pick to the Brooklyn Nets for wing Bojan Bogdanovic. The Wizards also need to improve their bench with cheap options because of their cap situation. According to Basketball Insiders they will only have a projected $10 million in cap space. That is enough for one quality free agent. If they get another second round draft pick it will help them had more quality depth to the team more efficiently.

The Los Angeles Lakers do not have any second round picks even though they have the second overall pick and a late first round pick. New president of basketball operation Magic Johnson needs as many picks as possible to build around his young core. The Lakers trying to add a second round pick should be a no brainier.

The Brooklyn Nets are in full rebuild mode. The bad thing is since the Billy King trade devastated the Nets future assets it will be very hard for the Nets to draft any highly totted players to build around. They do have two first round draft and one second round pick. All three picks are at the end of their respective rounds. This team needs another pick in the worst way possible. Hopefully they will be able to find a diamond in the rough with one of these picks.

They Could Use It But Do Not Need

The Minnesota Timberwolves have the seventh overall pick in the upcoming draft but now second around pick. The T-wolves already have a young core so the idea of adding not one of but two young players may make Minnesota fans cringe a little. However, The T-wolves need defense bad and finding a defensive ace in the second around could be a lot better than over paying one in free agency.

The Houston Rockets are contending right now. Honestly they could be the only team that can consistently be able to keep pace with the Golden State Warriors. The Rockets have no first round picks but two second round picks. Adding a third second round pick is not essential for the Rockets, it would increase their chances to getting a quality player out of the draft. General manager Daryl Morey all about probability and stats so he may want to add another second round pick.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are playoff contenders right now but they do not have a real chance of winning a championship with the roster as is right now. They need to be able to add talent for cheap. They have one first round pick but that is it. If they want to add more shooter for Russell Westbrook to kick out to they will need another second round pick.

The New Orleans Pelicans have their twin towers in DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis. They may have a “Big Three” of sorts if they can get point guard Jrue Holiday to return from free agency this summer. Those two, possibly three players will eat up a lot of salary cap space. If the Pelicans want to stay under the cap and still add talent they will have to look to the draft. They currently own the 40th pick in the draft and they need to add more one more pick if they want to have a some what good draft. With two second round pick there is a greater chance they can add another shooter or two around the two All-Stare big men.

The Detroit Pistons seem directionless. Reggie Jackson may not be the answer at point guard that everyone thought he was last off season. The team looked in disarray after their 2015-2016 play off run. Besides a change in coaching or the front office the other fix for a team that showed this past season to be dysfunction on the court is to bring in new players. The Pistons currently own the 12th pick in the draft and adding a second round pick will help player turn over.

The Toronto Raptors only poses a late first round pick and with the prospects of a possible rebuild in sight for the Raptors it would be wise to try to accumulate picks now. Granted, depending on what happens with their free agents like Kyle Lowry and Serge Ibaka, will dictate if the team rebuilds. It would not hurt the Raptors to invest in a second round pick just in case.

Probably Not But Maybe

The Portland Trail Blazers have three first round picks with no second round picks. However, they are not tanking and they are trying to get rid of contracts and draft picks, according to Keith Smith of Real GM:

With that in mind it is unlikely a team that is trying to shed salary and draft picks that will try to add another pick. The Philadelphia 76ers could be a partner for a salary dump trade that involves a second round pick. Jason Blevins of The Sixer Sense touches on a possible trade scenario with the Sixers and the Blazers.

Draft day fans will see a lot of trades and there is a possibility that the Philadelphia 76ers trade one of their four second round picks.
