So I think it’s safe to say that the Sixers are done with off-season moves. Not too many people have been happy with the moves or lack of. To me, they pretty much stayed where they are, maybe getting a little worse. They didn’t show a great deal of a plan. I’ll save my thoughts for later. Right now, let’s look at the players lost and gained:

Lost: Elton Brand, Lou Williams, Jodie Meeks, Tony Battie, Sam Young, Craig Brackins

Gained: Dorell Wright, Nick Young, Kwame Brown, Arnett Moultrie, Maurice Harkless, Royal Ivey, Maalik Wayns

You can’t say the Sixers made drastic improvements. If I had to grade it all, I would have to go with a D. The main point was to trade Iguodala. This didn’t happen. Then, they were suppose to spend their money wisely after amnestying Brand. Kwame Brown and Nick Young. I guess you can toss Ivey and Wayns in too. I wasn’t expecting the Sixers to improve. Trading Iguodala will make this team much worse before they get better. I’m just disappointed that they decided to sign players that the team didn’t really need. Now we have a log jam for the big man rotation and wing players.

Some would say having too many good players is better than having too few. Problem is, the Sixers didn’t sign good players. Kwame Brown isn’t a good player. He’s a decent back-up Center who is starting. Number two, there are still holes on this team and so it doesn’t make much sense to load up in a mediocre way while you leave open holes. Ivey is a nice player but Sixers need to do better. Sixers still need a consistent scorer. You have a log jam at the SF/SG spot. I thought trade Iguodala for one need and sign another need from the Elton Brand money.

That’s why I give them a D grade. Not because of what they did, but because of what they didn’t do.

The Sixers should trade Andre Iguodala and amnesty Elton Brand. That’s what should happen. But at least one of them won’t happen. At least either Elton will stay or Andre will stay. Or even both. I mean after all, we wouldn’t make a playoff push without them. And remember, it’s all about that 7/8th seed. Make some noise and get the fans to buy into the young and exciting part.

Sixers should get rid of both Spencer Hawes and Lou Williams. But no, one of them will stay. Collins is in love with Lou and unless the Sixers are sure they can find a Center, Hawes will probably end up on the team too.

I feel that Elton Brand will not be amnestied. I also realize that it doesn’t matter if he’s amnestied or not. I mean, I would prefer him to be gone because of the contract. But, it’s not like there’s big time free agents available to sign. Although, I will say that money can be used for a back-up PG. Maybe sign a shooter too. So yeah, the money can go into something if Elton is gone. I say, keep your options open. If you’re bound by that contract, you can’t really do any moving around. Even if you don’t use all of the money, I think having a bit of cash is important.

As we saw, Lavoy Allen has been given a qualifying offer. I like the move. I want to see him in a bigger role. But, as I said before, he’s not a starter. He defended an aging Kevin Garnett. In all honesty, Allen being the Sixers’ hero is a representation of how bad the Sixers’ big men are.

I think the Sixers should grab a back-up veteran PG for Jrue Holiday. I wish Kirk Hinrich was a possible snatch but I don’t think that’s possible. Jose Calderon is a PG that can shoot. If the Sixers target him, that would be fine by me. I cannot stress this enough. I’m working on a post dedicated to it so I won’t get too involved in it here. I don’t know if the Sixers will make it a priority though.

I would be okay with Meeks coming back. Obviously, he’s really just a specialist. And he struggled mightily in that specialty. I would expect him to take a lesser role. Is he up for that? I don’t know. But I don’t think Sixers bring him back. they didn’t offer him a qualifying offer. Otherwise, the Sixers are probably looking to re-sign him for less money…?

I’m convinced that Collins and Turner don’t have the best relationship. I hinted at the thought that only one of them would be on the team for next season. Obviously, that would be Collins. So now, is the relationship between the player and coach enough to send Turner packing? Plus it’s not like Turner is living up to being a #2 pick in the draft star type potential so Turner really has nothing to defend himself with.

I do think Turner’s game will improve once Iguodala is gone. I also think that the coaching staff doesn’t do too well with handling Turner. It’s somewhat complicated and there will always be the Turner supporters vs. the “BUST” squad to keep thing interesting. I’m sure this will be resolved soon enough and I do think Turner will be on the team next season.

One thing I fear is that Sixers over pay someone. It could be from re-signing a player or getting a free agent. Either way, I’m deathly afraid of the Sixers over paying. I was surprised Thaddeus Young got the decent deal he got.

And so that’s a brief preview of what I think should happen, but what will probably happen.
