One of the biggest questions surrounding the Sixers is whether or not Philadelphia should bring back Andrew Bynum. It’s a very tough and risky situation with several pros, along with several cons. He’s one of the most dominant big men in the league, but can he stay healthy?

Nov 16, 2012; Philadelphia, PA, USA; Philadelphia 76ers center Andrew Bynum (33) during the third quarter against the Utah Jazz at the Wachovia Center.
Jrue Holiday spoke to Hoops Hype, saying, “He’s an awesome teammate even though he didn’t get the chance to play. He showed me a lot of perspective from the big men aspect of the game. I do think he’s one of the best big men in the league and having him on the bench and in the locker room helped me to improve my game.” Holiday was then asked if he wants Bynum back with the team and Holiday responded saying, “I’d love him to…obviously, if he’s healthy. If he’s healthy I think he’s the best big in the league, but like I said it’s tricky because of the knee injuries. They actually haven’t talked to me about whether or not Bynum should return so I don’t know. Again, it’s a tricky situation because of his knees, his injuries. You can’t really make the decision just yet. I think he wants to play, he wants to win. He had a winning career playing with the Lakers, winning two rings…He’s a winner and he wants to play.”

If the Sixers plan this offseason is to please their first All-Star since the Allen Iverson era, their coaching search should be officially over.

Jrue Holiday, the Sixers’ up-and-coming point guard, told the Philadelphia Inquirer that he is strongly in favor of promoting current associate head coach Michael Curry to the head coaching position.

“I think he was the glue to our team last year. Obviously we were defensive-based, which is big for us. That was our calling card, and Mike was responsible for that.”

Those were the words of the Sixers lone All-Star Holiday. However, other players have spoken in favor of Curry. Evan Turner, the second overall pick of the 2010 draft, said, “”I think it would be great for the organization. We respect Mike.”

Curry spent 11 years in the NBA, two as a player under Doug Collins when he was with the Detroit Pistons. The Sixers’ associate head coach also served as president of the NBA’s player union and vice president of the D-League.

2008-2009 was Curry’s only shot as a head coach. In his one year with the Pistons, the team went 39-42 before getting swept by the Cavaliers before the much maligned “Decision”.

Curry has been on the Sixers’ staff ever since.

It is unlikely that the Sixers’ braintrust will just decide to promote Curry due to the fact that players like him. Brian Shaw, Mike Malone, and Jeff Hornacek are all expected to be interviewed for the current opening, but playoffs are keeping the Sixers from interviewing Shaw and Malone. Regardless, Curry will be interviewed and his relationships with current players should not be over-looked, especially with Jrue Holiday.
