The Sixers 2012 draft is complete and the Sixers have two new faces on their roster. With the 15th pick they took swingman Maurice Harkless from St Johns, which could spell the end of the Andre Iguodala era. Pending a trade, this pick makes zero sense because he will be buried on the depth chart by Iguodala and Thaddeus Young. Harkless at 19, is very young only having played one year at St Johns. He will take some time to develop but Doug Collins needs to give him minutes right away. He was a 44 percent shooter and averaged 15 points and 8 rebounds a game, so he is a versatile player. The Arnett Moultrie pick makes a lot more sense because they need some size inside with Hawes a free agent and management mulling the idea of amnestying Elton Brand. If they did pay Brand to disappear, Moultrie would be in a competition with Lavoy Allen and possibly Nikola Vucevic. Vucevic was a lottery pick who showed flashes last season but found himself in Collins’s dog house at the end of the year. Allen really shined in the Sixers playoff series against Boston, with his defensive and rebounding ability and was not intimated by the loudmouth Garnett. Moultrie started his collegiate career at Utep playing two seasons where he averaged 8 points and 7 rebounds a game before transferring to Mississippi State. He was a different player at Miss State averaging 16 points and 10.5 rebounds and dominated teams inside. He has size but needs to bulk up a bit to be successful in the low post in the NBA. The Sixers still have many decisions to make in the offseason, but these guys could be a big piece of the future of this franchise.
