Tony DiLeo is out. Sam Hinkie is in. Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports broke the news of the Sixers’ newest hire.

Mar 02, 2013; Philadelphia, PA, USA; Philadelphia 76ers fans celebrate as the final seconds of the fourth quarter tick off against the Golden State Warriors at the Wells Fargo Center.
DiLeo has been a part of the 76ers organization for the past 26 years, but according to reports, he is no longer a part of the team in any capacity. Rod Thorn, who held the president of basketball operations position in 2012-2013, will be limited to just a consultant’s role; Hinkie will take over as general manager and president of basketball operations.

Hinkie was the assistant general manager for the Houston Rocketss ffor the last eight seasons and has brought to fruition the idea of analytics to the forefront of an organization’s decision-making process.

The decision to hand the keys of the organization over to the Stanford-grad prove that majority-owner Josh Harris is committed to making the Sixers a true contender. Also, it has created a positive buzz around the Liberty Ballers for the first time since being eliminated in the seventh game of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals a calendar year ago.

Many of the brightest minds in basketball offered their opinions on the Sixers’ new general manager.

Sam Hinkie is a fantastic hire by the Sixers. As smart a guy as I’ve encountered in the NBA.

— Zach Lowe (@ZachLowe_NBA) May 10, 2013

Our own staff writer, Spencer Layman, tweeted Amin Elhassan, an NBA analyst for ESPN about the hire. This was his response.

Yes. Sam did a lot of great work in Houston RT @nba_spen: @me Do you like the Sixers hiring of Sam Hinkie?

— Amin Elhassan (@AminESPN) May 10, 2013

As you can see, the hiring of Sam Hinkie has received rave reviews. This may just be one step for the Sixers return to relevance, but it is a rather large one. According to most, the right guy is now in place.
