I rarely use the trade machine, but that changes for at least today. I went over to ESPN and decided just what the Sixers could do to get a backup PG. I think one of the big issues of how bad the Sixers are when Jrue Holiday is sitting out is that they don’t have anybody running the offense effectively. Wayns didn’t work out and Ivey isn’t working. As bad as our front court is, I think getting a backup PG is better for the team for the rest of the season. Long term, Sixers should hunt for a better big man. Here are the trades:

Trade #1:

Timbervolves trade Luke Ridnour and Lou Amundson for Spencer Hawes

Feb 8, 2013; Minneapolis, MN, USA; Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Luke Ridnour (13) Mandatory Credit: Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

Here the Sixers get my prized possession at the moment in Luke Rinour as well as getting a somewhat decent big man in Amundson. Amundson played for the Sixers to start his NBA career although he was called up from the D-League and was playing on a couple of 10-day contracts. Now, it’s projected that the Sixers would lose 3 wins while the T-Wolves would stay where they are. The Wolves may not take this trade since Rubio has been struggling with injuries. But this post is mainly wishful thinking while getting rid of Hawes.

Trade #2:

Jan 29, 2013; Los Angeles, CA, USA; Los Angeles Lakers point guard Steve Blake (5) Mandatory Credit: Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

Lakers trade Steve Blake for Lavoy Allen

Sixers give up Allen straight up (yo) for Blake. No, Blake isn’t a very good player but again we’re looking for a back-up and I think Blake would be decent for this team. He can run an offense and can shoot too. Lavoy is an okay big and with the Lakers having big man problems, maybe having an extra big wouldn’t hurt. Plus, Lakers still have Chris Duhon…so yeah…

Trade #3:

Dec 14, 2012; Oklahoma City, OK, USA; Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Eric Maynor (6) Mandatory Credit: Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Thunder trade Eric Maynor and Jeremy Lamb for Evan Turner

Calm down, calm down. There was bound to be a crazy idea in here somewhere. This is it. Maybe. Maynor isn’t being used by the Thunder anymore. Reggie Jackson took over the backup spot when Maynor went down. But, Eric was doing a really good job. Thunder are also not using Lamb that much. And Lamb is a SG that may be able to get some minutes with J-Rich going down.

These were trades for a PG, as the title would suggest. So what do you think Sensors? Should me aim for one of these trades? What trade would you bring? Am I crazy to think maybe at least one of these trades can work? Again, we’re looking at getting a backup PG. I could do another post for getting a big man with the recent Thad injury and who knows about Bynum.

Mandatory Credit: Jayne Kamin-Oncea-US PRESSWIRE

I guess ya’ll are gonna get on my case for being “negative”, right? Look, getting Bynum was huge. HUGE. But, they need one more major piece: A consistent scorer. A perimeter scorer. That’s what we need. Now, the Sixers added some shooters in Nick Young and Dorell Wright and part of the Bynum deal gave us Jason Richardson who can also hit the 3-ball. Jrue Holiday has shown improvement too.

But again, who’s going to get the ball? Bynum is a big that can score, don’t get me wrong. But, we need something outside too. Will it be Jrue? Maybe Evan Turner will finally break out? Or do we need another trade in the future?

Bynum is on his last year on his contract. If he stays healthy this season, he’ll probably demand a max salary. Sixers have set themselves up with all of those short contracts and they’ll have cap space. Don’t forget Birds rights. Anyway, Sixers are in a spot where they only have one year to convince Bynum that staying with the Sixers will be worth his while. The Nets lost out on Howard for now and they may still be eying Bynum for next summer.

In any case, there’s risks in getting Bynum. Don’t forget his knees. I’m pretty sure he’s never played all games in a season (I would’ve said 82 games but last season taught me some things). Sixers won’t be doing much with an injured Bynum. But, let’s say he’s playing all 82 games (we have to make this assumption). The Sixers will still need to get that scorer.

This is a young team. A team that has potential to grow. If the roster stayed the same for two more years, the Sixers could seriously be considered to win it all. Turner is going to improve. Jrue is going to improve. Nick Young could turn into the scorer we need. Moultrie’s a player that can play the PF spot and be solid. Only about 3 players will be in their 30′s in 2 years. This team is young and yet have a bit of experience.

So even if we don’t need the scorer, we still need time. And at this point, I’m willing to wait it out. For the first time in perhaps a decade, the Sixers will no question be one of the best teams in the league. This isn’t to be confused with last season’s surprise. Last year’s team over achieved. This year, not being in the top 4 in the east is an underachievement.

So that’s my breakdown. Let’s do this Sixers!
