Ronald Roberts, Jr.
The Saint Joseph’s University product was flying around Orlando like a man on a mission. He soared for rebounds, blocked shots and emphatically posterized multiple opponents.
He averaged 10 points and seven rebounds in his five OPSL starts, but that only tells half the story. Roberts is an exceptional athlete. Anyone who played against him in the Big 5 and Atlantic 10 will attest to that. We all heard about how his vertical jump at a Toronto Raptors pre-draft workout was too high to record. He seems to fit this mold of gifted athletes with superior length and explosion that the 76ers have been targeting. Add those gifts to a guy who shot 65 percent from the field and plays tough defense and you could potentially have a diamond in the rough on your hands. What more could you ask for out of Summer League?
The 76ers frontcourt is littered with bodies, but none of them other than Noel and eventually Embiid (and way down the line, Saric) who look to be long-term fixtures. It can’t hurt to sign Roberts and give him minutes as an energy guy off the bench this season. If the 76ers don’t, someone else will.
