Only during the dark days of the NBA offseason is this some sort of news, but let’s roll with it. Joel Embiid, the 76ers no. three draft pick this summer, has changed his jersey number. Originally, Embiid chose to go with number 11, last worn by the 76ers last All-Star in Jrue Holiday. The former Kansas center wore 21 at Kansas, but that number was occupied by Thaddeus Young, who was shipped away to the Minnesota Timberwolves this offseason.
That transaction opened up the door for Embiid to switch back to his original number and he didn’t waste any time to announce the change:
Now, there is one question left to answer. Will the 76ers offer refunds for Embiid no. 11 jerseys already purchased, like the Cavaliers did with Andrew Wiggins merchandise? Hmm…
