What Would a Tony Wroten Trade to the Clippers Look Like?

facebooktwitterreddit

With all of the trade rumors circulating with Sixers guard Tony Wroten and the Los Angeles Clippers, it’s time to investigate what the Sixers could pry from the Clippers in a trade. Anyone familiar with the Sixers is aware that GM Sam Hinkie will get the most that he can for his trade targets. For this reason, I took myself to the ESPN NBA Trade Machine and plugged away at possible trade scenarios between the two squads. To be honest, the Clippers don’t have a lot that the Sixers would be interested in, which makes this pretty cut and dry for a trade.

Scenario No. 1:

  • Clippers receive: Tony Wroten
  • Sixers receive: Reggie Bullock, 2019 first-round pick

This above scenario is the best-case scenario for the Sixers. Reggie Bullock is a former first-round pick who is only 23-years-old and has struggled to find minutes on a really really good Clips team. In 10.8 minutes per game this season, Bullock is averaging 2.7 points and shooting 41 percent from three, although he’s only taken 14 three-pointers this season. The cake here is the 2016 first-round pick, which would probably have some protections with it. The Clippers lost their 2015 first-rounder due to the Doc Rivers trade and the 2017 first-rounder, so 2019 is their first available first-rounder they have to trade. The Stepien Rule prevents teams from trading back-to-back first-rounders. I don’t see a scenario where the Sixers trade Tony Wroten and don’t receive a first-round pick, especially since he’s still under contract for a few more seasons.

Scenario No. 2

  • Clippers Receive: Tony Wroten
  • Sixers receive: C.J. Wilcox, 2019 first-round pick

Again, this is similar to the first scenario, except swapping Reggie Bullock for C.J. Wilcox. At 24-years-old, Wilcox is another former first-round pick by the Clippers in 2014 who has struggled to find playing time. He was recently assigned to the D-League where he can hopefully find more playing time. Wilcox played collegiate ball at Washington, where he set the team record for most career three-pointers with 301, which is sixth in Pac-12 history.

Conclusion

Like I mentioned above, the Clippers don’t have a lot to offer the Sixers outside of the 2016 first-round pick and some young talent in exchange for Tony Wroten. C.J. Wilcox and Reggie Bullock are two former first-round picks that were known as lethal three-point shooters in college that would be welcomed on this Sixers squad desperate for shooting. However, I don’t see a deal getting done without that first-round pick coming to Philadelphia. I could go on an insert player after player + the pick in this trade, but the point is obvious. However, it remains to be seen if Hinkie is willing to trade a contributing player like Wroten for a first-rounder that’s still four years away.

More from The Sixer Sense

The Tony Wroten trade rumors are starting to circulate with the Los Angeles Clippers being the first team to have some serious interest. Talks are still in the very early stages at this point, but this situation will be monitored. I’d take a 2019 first-round pick and any of the players above for Wroten in a heart beat. Would you?
