Sixers Schedule: Miracles? Sixers Win Again 93-92

Winning in a see-saw game with a slew of lead changes in crunch time, the now 7-29 Sixers came off their win over Brooklyn to upend the Indiana Pacers, again, at home.

Both teams were looking for their second consecutive win. The Pacers were coming off their fifth game in seven nights. In front of over 17,000 fans, the game saw more than ten lead changes.

This was a tough match-up for the Sixers and their youth as Frank Vogel’s Indiana likes to play, “smash mouth” or “bully” basketball.

The Pacers were effective in getting to the foul line and establishing post play in the half court in this, the second of four meetings between the two teams. David West put the Pacers on his back with 28 points and 9 rebounds. Rodney Stuckey added 13 points while Roy Hibbert grabbed 13 boards.

It would not be enough.

Michael Carter-Williams scored a lay-up on a baseline out of bounds hand-off play (a shot with a high level of difficulty) to put the Sixers ahead for good with 9.2 seconds left.

Stars of the Game

Good skill set on display tonight by K.J. McDaniels. He was calm and efficient and finished with a team leading

+/-

of 13. He ball faked and got to the foul line and helped to control tempo in the game while scoring double-figures. He also played outstanding help-side defense. When another Sixer guard got beat on the perimeter, K.J. was there to step up. McDaniels also kept up his shot-blocking ways vs. the Pacers. It’s impressive what he does at 6:6. And again, he blocked in the lane from the help AND on perimeter

“fly outs.”

He continued to show off his ability to execute what Malik Rose calls, “scouting report D.” He and Tony Wroten, continue to be the lone Sixers to utilize the very effective,

“Euro-Step,”

taught to them by Brett Brown.

In twenty-six minutes, Covington shot 6-of-13 from the field.

Covington

has now connected from three in twenty consecutive games. He finished with four three point field goals and 16 points. He played a nice all-around floor game. In other words, he set good picks, got his hands on loose balls, hustled in transition defense, and basically did good things that don’t show in the line. He played with poise and hit timely shots. Overall he was outstanding.

The

Wrecking Ball

Remix can’t play conservative and he was not denied. He finished with 20 points and 9 assists. The 76ers leading scorer had 17 points in the opening seventeen minutes.  Wroten did not play perfect, but he played hard and his skill lended to Brett Brown’s style tonight. He had two nice lob plays, one off the glass in transition to a trailing K.J. McDaniels and one miraculous alley-oop for a one-handed snare and finish by Jakarr Samson.
