2014 Third Overall Pick- Joel Embiid (C, Kansas)
This pick is obviously way too early to tell whether or not it has panned out the way the Sixers wanted to, but it seems like they have made the right choice. Joel Embiid has been and will be out all year (despite a cruel April Fool’s article from our editor, Drew Corrigan) but has been giving us some things to hope for. Videos of him draining threes like a guard and taking it to the hoop in Carter-esque fashion is not only giving the fans hope, but making the Sixers’ look smart on once again banking on an injured big man.
Draft Grade: A-
Again, way too early to tell if this was a busted pick or not, but the Sixers seem to have made a smart long-term, choice. The players selected between the Sixers’ third overall pick and 10th overall pick are headlined by names like an injured Julius Randle, a struggling Dante Exum, and a solid guard in Marcus Smart. Sixers made a great choice in a talented and hilarious youngster, but we didn’t give them an A+ only because irritation from seeing another promising player sitting the bench for a year.
Who They Should’ve Taken: Joel Embiid. ‘Nuff said.
