From Evan Turner to Joel Embiid: Re-Grading Sixers Past Drafts

2012 15th Overall Pick- Maurice Harkless (F St. John’s)

If you don’t remember Maurice Harkless, don’t worry. You aren’t a terrible Sixer fan. Most Sixers fans would love to forget this pick actually. Harkless was traded to Orlando a month after he was drafted in the Andrew Bynum deal and has yet to blossom into a reliable NBA player.

Draft Grade: D

There is no one word to describe how insignificant this selection was. It did not make the Sixers slightly better in any way possible. Harkless couldn’t even try his first cheesesteak before he was shipped off to Floridian paradise. The team also missed out on some solid players.

Who They Should’ve Taken: Draymond Green

A lot of teams can admit passing up on Draymond Green was a mistake. Repeatedly called the heartbeat of the West-leading Warriors, Green has been on a defensive tear and even getting strong consideration for Defensive Player of the Year. Green is in the top-15 for steals and leads the league in defensive win shares. He would be a huge contributor to this rebuilding Sixer team. Green was the 35th pick in the draft and looking back on this Moe Harkless pick, everything about it was a head scratcher. Sixers also missed on Jared Sullinger (21st overall), Terrence Jones (17th overall), and Khris Middleton (39th overall).
