All-Philadelphia 76ers 5th Team
G Larry Drew, G Chris Johnson, F Malcolm Lee, F Drew Gordon, C Javale McGee
A five-man unit made completely of guys who are no longer 76ers. Now, it’s kinda cheap to throw this group together, seeing as there are just 37 total games played here, but the end of the roster has been a pretty bleak place throughout the entire season, and that’s well illustrated here. The Sixers got a first-rounder from Denver for taking JaVale McGee off their hands, and after a pretty hilarious mentorship facade, the Sixers bought him out before he could make too big of an impact on Joel Embiid. Javale scored 18 points on 18 shots as a Sixer. He was not helpful to the cause.
Larry Drew and Chris Johnson were each young guys asked to do way too much in their spots this season. Drew came in off two 10-day contracts and just chucked, scoring just 46 points on 58 shots in his 12 appearances before being let go. Johnson actually started the first game of the season for the Sixers, but was so bad on both ends that he was playing 20.8 minutes per game over the first nine contests, and still was promptly waived on November 15th. Gordon gets some slack, because he has developed nicely since going down to the Delaware 87ers, but he was basically a non-factor here.
And then there’s Malcolm Lee, who played two minutes and registered one shot attempt in a December 10th game against the Atlanta Hawks. The 76ers had a +66.7 Net Rating with him on the floor this season. Advanced stats are fun.
Look at that lineup again. Look at the amount of struggle present in these five players. #HotTakeAlert: I think Kentucky might beat these Sixers.
