Alexey Shved and Tim Frazier both have looked like NBA-caliber guards this season, though admittedly both have looked their best after they swung through Philadelphia. I’m still mad about Shved getting traded in the Troy Daniels deal, because he wasn’t playing poorly here, then got buried in Houston. Though without that we don’t have this bonkers run he’s had for the New York Knicks, so I guess I can forgive that.
Frazier was a triple-double machine for the Maine Red Claws in the D-League, and he was really, really fun to watch while he was racking up assists with Isaiah Canaan out in February. He’s in Portland now, and I hope he can break through to be on a regular roster next year.
Glenn Robinson III and Furkan Aldemir have both been disappointments in different ways. GRIII bombed out of Minnesota, and hasn’t exactly fit in in Philly, shooting 32 percent from the field and struggling to get the defense down. Aldemir’s hands are made of vulcanized rubber, and he makes fellow Turk Omer Asik look like Hakeem Olajuwon offensively. He’s still got some hope because of his rebounds, but right now he looks like nothing more than a poor man’s Reggie Evans. Malcolm Thomas isn’t a bad player, but the Sixers always seemed to fall off a cliff offensively when he was on the floor.
No roster regulars yet, but this group at least has three guys I can tolerate watching, although in Aldemir and Shved’s cases, there may be some satire involved in that statement.
