Draft season is approaching. It is that time of the year people. Scouting reports, “anonymous scouts”, promises, draft stock rising and draft stock dropping. With the playoffs in full bloom, as Sixers fans we get to enjoy the playoffs sitting at home just thinking, “man, this is going to be us here in two years.”

Eventually the rebuild will pay off and we will be able to enjoy watching our team going deep into the playoffs and making some noise. We also get to enjoy the draft process a little more than the teams that are in the playoffs currently; even though the draft lottery is going to be extremely stressful. The Sixers have their own pick — that will hopefully be the No. 1 overall — and two VERY KRISTAPS PORZINGIS SLIM chances to grab the Lakers (fourth slot) and Heat (10th slot) that the Sixers own. Those chances could be changed with the lottery not being set, but they are more likely to convey next year. As I said above, draft stuff is in full swing for those draft junkies out there and DraftExpress.com recently released their firt extended mock draft with team needs.

Now, I’ve been on a little of a sabbatical from writing for some personal reasons, but I’ve been doing my best to keep up with the draft process. On top of that, I’ve been able to watch more prospect tape now that the Sixers season is over. What I want to accomplish with this post is two things:

  • Grade DraftExpress’s first mock draft for the Sixers
  • Try to delve into the rationale for who they picked.
  • If I don’t like the pick, I will make a suggestion on who I think they should pick and then why.
