NBA Draft: Sixers Related Big Board
Apr 4, 2015; Indianapolis, IN, USA; Duke Blue Devils forward Justise Winslow (12) is fouled by Michigan State Spartans forward Marvin Clark Jr. (0) during the second half of the 2015 NCAA Men
6. SF Justise Winslow, Duke (6-foot-6, 222 pounds)
Every team needs a player like Winslow. He’s a tough dude that’s a fiery competitor, always willing to do the little things in order to help his team win. While he doesn’t have tremendous length (just a 6-foot-10 wingspan), he’s one of the best defenders in the draft (probably the second best behind Rondae Hollis-Jefferson) due to his athleticism, strength, and high basketball I.Q. Offensively, he shined when attacking the rim, usually taking advantage of the strength or quickness advantage he had over most college players. Winslow’s jumper is still a work in progress. While he shot the three ball much better than anticipated (1.2 per game at a 41.4 percent clip), it came mostly off catch-and-shoot situations. He struggled in the mid-range and generally doesn’t shoot well off the dribble.
Winslow’s a guy that can do some damage near the rim, hit a corner three, better passer than given credit for, and he’ll guard the best player on the opposing team. He may not have the potential that some other players do, but I think it’s realistic he becomes good all-around player. Maybe not the sexiest draft pick, but a quality selection nonetheless.
