The Sixers 2015 Rebranding Has Been Awesome
By Josh Wilson
Unless you’ve lived under a rock, or really aren’t a diehard Philadelphia 76ers fan, you are well aware that this year is the first year of a rebranding process for the Sixers.

Personally, I think the rebranding has been awesome, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the new logos and color ways, even though some of the changes are extremely subtle.
What’s the cause of this rebrand? Perhaps sales being so low. The revenue last season was among the worst in the NBA, and pretty much no one tuned in to watch on a regular basis on TV. Having a new logo, court, and jerseys to get excited about gives fans a reason to come and watch, tune in to watch, and buy new merchandise (since their old jerseys are now dated), even if the team isn’t doing great (which it probably won’t, as many are projecting 25 wins or less this season).
I, for one, have been a skeptic of this rebrand from the beginning. I liked the new jerseys, I thought the stars down the side were cool, but I didn’t think they were as awesome as the rest of the fan base seemed to think. But then media day rolled around, and we saw the whole roster rocking the new uniforms. And it was beautiful, and they weren’t even balling in them yet.
Here’s some pictures that feature glimpses of the uniforms from media day.

On top of that was a new court design for the team, a subtle change, but still, a part of the rebranding.
The season tickets were made to go along with the rebrand too, and the boxing and presentation of them was something fans were very pleased with.
Lastly, my favorite part was something that debuted on the same day as media day. It really pulls together and embodies the entire rebranding, their hype video for the season.
I’ve watched this video a few times, and Nerlens Noel was rumored to have watched it twice himself on media day. I can’t blame him. It’s epic.
The video pulls together pride of Philadelphia, and shows some of the history that comes along with the city. With some of the new jerseys emulating past uniforms, history is a clear theme. The red white and blue shows country and city pride, and really, the video is a perfect look at what the goal of the rebrand is, and how proud Philadelphians are of their sports.
I just recently moved to Philly, and I’m awestruck with how dedicated fans are to their sports teams. Most in the area are struggling right now, but they will fight for their team with loyalty through thick and thin. This is who the Sixers are, and this is who their fans are. The rebrand shows us this.
The rebrand has been awesome.
