Survey Saturday: What Are Fans Willing To Give Up For Joel Embiid?

With just about anything with the Philadelphia 76ers, fans are often on two ends of the same spectrum as far as what they want the team to do. The same goes for what to do with the injured Joel Embiid. Embiid was brought in last season as a rookie, and the team knew that he was likely going to miss the whole year. This year was not expected, though, and he’s going to be sitting for all of this year’s season too.

Jahlil Okafor, for now at least, seems like a decent substitution in the front court alongside Nerlens Noel who is a great defensive player and working on a mid-range shot as well. In light of a recent article that painted Embiid as a lazy player who didn’t care about recovery, (and had a terrible diet for an athlete) some fans are starting to seriously lose interest in him, despite the upside he may have once he comes off of injury.

Struggling to see where he fits in with Okafor and Noel is a problem. Struggling to see how he ever recovers from this Greg Oden-like start to his career is another problem. These are all reasons some fans want to get rid of him now, sooner than later, before he loses even more value.

On the other side, there are those that feel as if he needs to be held on to. This crowd isn’t necessarily against him getting traded, they just want to hold out until he is healthy, so maybe the market is larger for him.

We asked fans what they would trade Embiid for right now as part of our Survey Saturday.

Some are clearly ready to let him go.

But some are seriously wanting some value out of him, and would need some key components for the Sixers to see any value of letting Embiid go.

Then there’s some who really want to hold out on trading Embiid. They know there’s a very small market for injured players, and especially players that have yet to play in the NBA.

The bottom line is that there’s a multitude of reasons to wait on trading Embiid, to trade Embiid now, or to keep him on the squad. Our friend Ti Windisch, editor of A Royal Pain put it best when he said this:

I’m excited to see how general manager Sam Hinkie handles the entire situation.
