“Fo, fo, fo” — Moses Malone
If it’s not “practice,” then “Fo, fo, fo” may be the most notorious quote from a Sixers player all time. Going into the 1983 playoffs, the Philadelphia 76ers were incredibly confident about what the outcome would be for them, knowing that they were undoubtedly the best team in the league.
Moses Malone was just one of the many pieces to the Sixers that season, but he may have been the most important. Malone would end up being the league MVP, and also was the All-Star game MVP. Reporters were grilling Malone leading up to the playoffs, trying to figure out how he thought they would go. Malone answered with that notorious quote, saying “Fo, fo, fo,” which was to mean “Four, four four.”
For those of you not getting it, Malone was predicting that the Sixers, alongside the leadership of Julius Erving and Malone himself would sweep every series in the playoffs that year.
Malone was nearly right, but his quote would have to get changed to “Fo, fi, fo,” as the Sixers would lose just one game in the entire playoffs that year, in the conference championship.
This was the last time the Sixers won a title, and it was one of the greatest title runs of all time.
