The Julius Erving iconic layup
Julius Erving had one of the greatest lay ups of all time, that really demonstrated his long arms. Going up against the Los Angeles Lakers, he ran along the baseline, and hit a seemingly impossible shot that really showed just how much of a legend he was.
The Lakers were playing shut down defense, guarding the key and making sure if Erving had a chance at a shot, he would have to do it from behind the backboard. But don’t give Erving a challenge like that, because he just might go and prove you wrong.
Prove them wrong he did, running along the baseline, extending his arm while still having his body mostly behind the backboard, and laying the ball in with apparent ease. His grace made this shot seem like child’s play, but I dare you to go out to a hoop tonight and try it. I think you’d find it’s more difficult than it appears. Then, add defense into the equation, and it becomes even harder. But not for the Doctor.
