7. Iverson’s Big Year
When we think of top performances for the Sixers all time, it’s no surprise that Allen Iverson shows up more than once. Someone that averaged over 25 points per game throughout his career and singlehandedly rekindled the flame for Sixers fans and their passion for the team is definitely going to be important. His 2003 season was a big one, leading the Sixers to the playoffs.
Their first game of the playoffs came in March, and the Sixers were looking to get an early jump on the New Orleans Hornets at home. They would win game one and two, but their first win was arguably the more important. Getting off on the right foot in an eight point win is important, but possibly even more important was a big game for Iverson.
AI has a thing for game ones, as he went off in game one of the 2001 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers too.
In this game, he would really pop with 55 points on 32 attempted field goals, eight assists and four rebounds. He also only turned the ball over four times that night.
Iverson was an All Star that year, and played the most minutes per game in the whole league. He had a league-leading 2.7 steals per game, and averaged 27.6 points and 5.5 assists per game.
