3. Hal Greer 50 Point Game
Hal Greer is one of the best Philadelphia 76ers of all time, but his name is sometimes overshadowed by the likes of Wilt Chamberlain and Moses Malone. Greer’s number, 15, has been retired by the Sixers. No Sixers player has ever scored as much as Greer or appeared in as many games as Greer. He scored nearly 22,000 points in his 15 years with Philly and Syracuse.
Greer had no trouble at all scoring as a Sixer, and that showed one night against the Boston Celtics.
This career high game for Greer occured in 1964, and snapped a four game winning streak for the Celtics. The Sixers ended up defeating Boston 144-119 that night, and Greer sank 49% of his shots and made 12 free throws. This game was just one of 17 times that season that Greer scored 30 points or more.
Later in that same season Greer led the Sixers to a 13 point win over St. Louis with 42 points.
Greer was one of the best scorers of all time for the Sixers, if not the best, and this performance against Boston was a monumental one for him.
