Luke Jackson – 22
Luscious Brown “Luke” Jackson may not come to mind immediately as a top Philadelphia 76er scorer, but that is more the passing of time than a marginal performance. He was the 6’ 9” 240 pound center/power forward of the Sixers for the eight seasons from 1964 through 1972.
Drafted in the first round by the Sixers in the 1964 NBA draft at number four, his performance helped to propel the Sixers in six of his eight seasons with the team. he was named to the NBA’s 1964–65 All Rookie team after averaging 14.8 points and 12.9 rebounds per game. He played alongside Wilt Chamberlain, and was also a key part of the 1966-1967 Sixers team that kept the Boston Celtics from stringing nine consecutive NBA championships.
He scored 5,170 points with the Sixers, but his most productive year was his rookie season in 1964-1965, when he scored 1,126 points.
The Sixers felt that his performance would allow them to fill the void caused when the team traded Wilt Chamberlain to the Los Angeles Lakers. He never quite managed to do so, particularly after suffering a serious injury to his ankle in 1969.
